Varmala – Jaimala Indian Wedding Tradition

10/06/2017 by admin

Varmala or Jaimala is an Indian wedding tradition in which the bride and groom put fresh flower garlands into each other’s necks at the beginning of the marriage ceremony. India is a massive country and variations occur depending on the region and community where the wedding ceremony is taking place, and as such ‘varmala‘ is often employed in certain parts instead of ‘jaimala‘. The essence of Indian Weddings stem from the customary rituals that take traditions, values and customs to a new level, just like at Tanvi & Jateen’s wedding at The VIP Lounge in North London, custom where the groom make it difficult for the bride to be to put the haar on him – this is for fun and games.

Joota Chupai The Shoe Stealing Indian Wedding Tradition

09/06/2017 by admin

Welcome to a big fat Indian wedding! … and the Joota Chupai custom. Stealing the groom’s shoes is an age old indian wedding tradition

An amusing tradition prevalent for centuries in Indian marriage customs mainly at Hindu weddings and Parsi wedding. The ultimate goal of this tradition is for the bride’s sisters to steal the Groom’s as a prank and promise to give the shoes back only if they get a handsome fee at the end of the wedding.
In this case, Mihir had chosen his best man or men to help his family protect his joota!

Legendary Photographic Agency Magnum Photos Turns 70

03/05/2017 by admin

Magnum Photos is an international photographic cooperative owned by its photographer-members, with offices in New York City, Paris, London and Tokyo.

The legendary photographic co-operative Magnum Photos was set up in May 1947 by a group of famous photographers including Robert Capa, David Seymour, Henri Cartier-Bresson, George Rodger and William Vandivert whose work would inspire generations of current photographers.

“Magnum is a community of thought, a shared human quality, a curiosity about what is going on in the world, a respect for what is going on and a desire to transcribe it visually.” – according to co-founder Henri Cartier-Bresson,

Run by photographers, the Magnum has included photojournalists from across the world, who have covered many historical events of the 20th century. Magnum photographers have produced some of the most iconic images of our time.

Why is this important to me and my indian wedding photography? Well of these Magnum image makers were the best at use of photojournalism to tell a story,  just like wedding photographers of today.

Photojournalism – Wikipedia

“Like a writer, a photojournalist is a reporter, but he or she must often make decisions instantly and carry photographic equipment.

Timeliness
The images have meaning in the context of a recently published record of events.
Objectivity
The situation implied by the images is a fair and accurate representation of the events they depict in both content and tone.
Narrative
The images combine with other news elements to make facts relatable to the viewer or reader on a cultural level.”

Model Shoot With iphone

24/11/2016 by admin

There I was at the Asian Bride Live Wedding Exhibition at Olympia London talking to Anil from Wed In Style, one of the premier wedding decoration and mandap companies in London.

Two models wearing elegant bridal wedding dresses from a nearby exhibitors came around on their break to see this stunning Wed-In-Style mandap setup of fresh flowers, glass floor and candles. They to were very impressed with the wedding mandap setup one of the model asks if she can have some photos taken inside the mandap.

When Anil says yes, she hands me her iphone7 for the photoshoot to take some pictures of her. I don’t think she knew I was a photographer by profession who normally uses DSLRs but there I am doing a professional iphone photo shoot. I captured a just few images on her smartphone then she came off the glass floored wedding stage as she felt a little unsure, not because it wasn’t safe but wearing 4in heals didn’t help. There I was thinking, a perfect fashion shoot setup with a beautiful model, an elegant modern wedding outfit and a great backdrop and I didn’t have a camera on me.

Professional Photographer Does A Model Iphone Photo Shoot

So I asked her fellow Indian model if she wanted to do a photoshoot, when she agreed I asked her to remove her shoes and then go up on to the mandap stage. This young model had an iphone 6 which she gave to me and my request to her was to upload a couple of the images to her Instagram and Facebook profile and tagging Wed In Style.  With the high heals removed, she was more confident to walk around and seemed to be having a great time posing for the iphoneography shoot in the mandap. After I had photographed a quite a few on her smartphone, I captured a select few images on my older iphone 5 too. Being an ardent Canon 5D DSLR user, I never imagined of doing fashion photography with a smartphone until the only access you have to a camera is on your Apple Iphone. I am certain Apple have improved the cameras on both the 6s and iphone 7, in fact a couple of my professional photographer friends uses their phones for fashion shoots and landscapes, in conjunction with  iPhone 7/6/6s Clip-On Lens Kits  (180 Degree Fisheye Lens, Wide Angle Lens and Macro Lens).

My photos are straight from the inbuilt phone camera lens and have gone through my expert post processing in photoshop to make the images pop.

Yes these images do look stunning and I am impressed with these shots. I cannot wait to do more photography model photoshoots with my iphone in the near future.

PS: I do apologies as I didn’t ask the models name.
